Obstkäppchen – Mission in Words

The proportion of seniors in Germany is increasing. The number of people suffering from old-age poverty is also growing. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the number of recipients of basic income support in old age has more than doubled since 2003. This means that currently one in five people over 80 is affected.

Obstkäppchen supports seniors affected by old-age poverty and loneliness in old age. As a modern Little Red Riding Hood, the initiative brings a bag full of food and affection to them. With fruit and vegetables in tow, the Obstkäppchen support a healthy diet and also spend time with the seniors with every visit.

90 Seniors in Hennef

In Hennef alone, Obstkäppchen supplies around 90 senior citizens with bags, which are reassembled every month by a nutritionist and are worth 15 euros each.

Since the initiative began, seniors have been visited over 10,000 times and provided with a food bag. Obstkäppchen currently delivers around 350 bags per month – filled with fresh groceries, essential ingredients, small recipes, and social interaction.

Improved Well-being

A 2021 study by Fresenius University of Applied Sciences shows that the well-being of seniors has improved by approximately 7% since the beginning of the Obstkäppchen visits. Obstkäppchen therefore also organizes events where seniors and volunteers can interact.

KRAKE e.V. works on a voluntary basis and is out and about almost every day in Cologne and the surrounding area, doing its bit to save the world. Unfortunately, this is not possible without money. Donations are needed for the following, among other things:

Balanced Diet

Donations support seniors in maintaining a balanced diet. This is often difficult for people suffering from old-age poverty, as high-quality regional food is expensive.

Regular deliveries

Since the initiative began, seniors have been visited over 10,000 times and provided with a bag of groceries. Currently, Obstkäppchen delivers approximately 350 bags per month – filled with fresh food, important ingredients, small recipes, and social interaction.

New Locations

Donations help the Obstkäppchen headquarters with the general development of new locations, the financing of bags, and other incurred costs.
