Pro Ocean – A Mission in Words
More than a truckload of plastic ends up in the oceans every minute. As a result, over 1 million marine animals and birds die each year from ocean plastic. The climate also suffers. For clean oceans and healthy ecosystems, Pro Ocean collects plastic daily in Negros. This is because the Philippines generates the most ocean plastic worldwide.
Almost half of the collected plastic can be recycled, which can save up to 60% of the CO2 emissions that would otherwise be incurred for new plastic. Plastic-free oceans are also important for the many mangrove forests. These store up to 4 times more CO2 than other trees and are therefore excellent climate reservoirs. They are also extremely important for biodiversity.
